Applications for the Fall 2024 Kentucky Equine Management Internship are now open!
The Fall 2024 Kentucky Equine Management Internship starts with a traditional orientation short course that gives all interns an up-to-date understanding of the Thoroughbred industry in Lexington, Kentucky. After the first week, interns are employed by participating farms as full-time employees where they become familiar with the day-to-day operations of commercial Thoroughbred farms. The 24-week Fall session focuses primarily on sales and marketing and provides students with an overview of the intensive management practices used on commercial Thoroughbred breeding operations. On a day-to-day basis, most interns will be involved in the care and preparation of weanlings, broodmares and particularly yearlings for sale at various public auctions. On farms that start yearlings under saddle for racing, limited riding opportunities may be available.
